The purpose of the Communicable Disease Program at the Shannon County Health Center is to prevent an outbreak of a contagious disease.

Disease surveillance reports are collected from local schools, physicians and nursing homes. Certain diseases are mandated by law to be reported to the health center in a timely manner. Investigations are performed on all suspect or confirmed disease reports. Individuals are then instructed on appropriate follow-up and treatment.
Reports are sent on to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
